Those two awards are given to persons that have contributed significantly to the field of urban drainage research and to the community of JCUD or its working groups during their career. A person can be nominated, based on significant contribution as an active member of the community, by a member of the advisory board of associate JCUD members and former award winners. The career stage of the person will then decide the eligibility for each award. For the mid-career award around 15 years after the PhD is assumed and for the career achievement award 30 years after the PhD. These time spans are indicative and can be waived in special circumstances by the JCUD. The decision on the awards is then taken by the JCUD by anonymous vote, facilitated by the award coordinator and the chair of the JCUD (4 eyes principle). If conflicts of interest arise, substitutes can be selected from the ranks of the JCUD. Finally, the awards are presented at the ICUD Conference dinner.
